Halftone

A halftone represents continuous tone with discrete printed dots whose size, spacing, or distribution changes the perceived density. In DTF, halftoning may be applied to visible artwork or to the white underbase. Those uses have different goals and must be evaluated at final scale through the actual RIP and physical output.

In practice

Key variables include source raster density, line frequency or cell size, screen angle, dot method, threshold, and the device’s own screening. Two nominally identical LPI values can behave differently after resampling or RIP processing.

NestSheet’s Prep workflow includes artwork halftone controls, while white generation can also use halftone settings. Keep the two planes explicit and inspect them independently.
