Anti-aliasing

Anti-aliasing smooths a raster edge by assigning intermediate colour or opacity to boundary pixels instead of forcing every pixel fully on or off. It reduces visible stair-stepping, but in DTF those semi-transparent edge pixels also affect artwork bounds and the white mask, so they must be inspected rather than deleted automatically.

In practice

A clean antialiased edge forms a continuous transition attached to the design. Random flecks, a coloured matte, or a faint box far from the edge are different problems even if they use similar alpha values.

Judge the edge at intended print size, over light and dark backgrounds, and in the white preview. Resolution, alpha threshold, choke, and RIP interpretation can each change the physical result.
