Use cases

Five workflows, one pre-press tool

DTF, UV and UV-DTF, dye-sublimation, eco-solvent, and custom apparel shops that run more than one of these on the same floor. What each optimises for, and how NestSheet handles the specifics.

Direct-to-film

DTF gang sheets at 92–96% packing density

Mixed-size artwork packed tight on film, correct white under-base with per-job choke, and RIP-ready output the first time — no second export step.

What shops optimise for

  • Sheet utilisation — 70 % packing versus 92–96% packing is the difference between healthy margin and a break-even shop on the same order volume.
  • White-layer accuracy — spread, choke, variable-dot coverage and per-job override without digging through five dialog boxes.
  • RIP compatibility without a second export step — the TIFF you save is the TIFF the RIP ingests.

What NestSheet does for it

  • Packs mixed artwork at typical 92–96% utilisation on any roll width from 30 cm to 120 cm.
  • Generates the white channel from alpha with a configurable choke and your own profile for the spread amount.
  • Writes CMYK+W TIFF with embedded ICC exactly how the downstream RIP expects it.
  • Splits multi-sheet orders on gutter lines, never through artwork, with a manifest for reorders.
Compatible RIPs

UV & UV-DTF

UV and UV-DTF pre-press for hard substrates

UV-DTF for cups, phone cases and acrylic — plus UV-curable flatbed. Colour accuracy beats raw density when the substrate costs more than the film.

What shops optimise for

  • Colour fidelity — customers ordering UV typically expect proof-accurate colour, not "close enough" DTF tolerance.
  • Varnish/white channel control — selective gloss and matte layers that need exact alpha masks.
  • Per-substrate calibration — the same artwork prints different on white-based acrylic versus transparent film.

What NestSheet does for it

  • Supports spot colours as first-class channels, not flattened into CMYK.
  • Per-substrate ICC profile switching — pick the profile that matches the acrylic, cup, or transfer sheet you are printing on.
  • Separate varnish and white channels for selective gloss and opacity effects.
  • Preview shows what the finished piece will look like on the actual substrate colour, not a neutral background.
Compatible RIPs

Roland VersaWorks, Mimaki RasterLink, Caldera, Onyx, ColorLogic ZePrA, Fiery — plus Mutoh VerteLith and Wasatch SoftRIP expanding

Materials

UV-DTF film, UV-curable ink on rigid substrate (acrylic, wood, metal), varnish, primer, selective white

Dye-sublimation

Dye-sublimation pre-press with mirror-safe output

Sublimation on polyester apparel and hard-coated substrates — mirror-on by default, bleed-aware nesting, and ink-coverage estimates before the press run.

What shops optimise for

  • Ink coverage modelling — sublimation ink cost per square metre is high compared to DTF, making accurate ink estimates valuable at quote time.
  • Mirror-accurate output — every sublimation transfer is mirrored, and a single un-mirrored sheet ruins the batch.
  • Bleed allowance for cut-and-sew — apparel jobs need a bleed margin the packer respects, not eats.

What NestSheet does for it

  • Mirror is always on by default for sublimation output and it is visually obvious in the preview — no silent un-mirrored exports.
  • Bleed-aware nesting — you set the bleed, the packer honours it, the output file already includes the bleed area.
  • Ink coverage estimate per sheet at export — you know the ink cost before you print.
  • Works with the sublimation RIPs the apparel industry uses.
Compatible RIPs

Sawgrass Virtuoso, MainTOP for sublimation, Caldera, Onyx — plus Wasatch SoftRIP expanding

Materials

Sublimation paper, polyester fabric, hard-coated substrates (MDF, ceramic, aluminium, phone cases)

Eco-solvent

Eco-solvent pre-press for large-format jobs

Eco-solvent pre-press for vinyl, banner, canvas, wall graphics and vehicle wraps — with cut-contour registration and tiling for oversized prints.

What shops optimise for

  • Trim and cut-contour registration — every eco-solvent job is cut afterwards, and the cut path has to line up with the art.
  • Large-format handling — files can be 3 m+ and 300-dpi, and the tool has to not hang at import.
  • Media-aware ICC — vinyl, banner, canvas and wrap all want different profiles.

What NestSheet does for it

  • Large-format friendly — files open, preview and export without loading the full raster into memory.
  • Cut-contour registration marks generated correctly for the cutter you are using (GCC, Summa, Roland, Graphtec).
  • Per-media ICC profile pickable on export, not baked into the project.
  • Tiling for oversized prints — split a 2 m × 4 m banner into four 1 m × 2 m tiles with overlap marks.
Compatible RIPs

Roland VersaWorks, Onyx, Caldera, SAi Flexi, Mimaki RasterLink

Materials

Self-adhesive vinyl, banner PVC, canvas, wall graphics film, vehicle-wrap vinyl

Custom apparel

Custom apparel: DTF, UV and sublimation from one tool

Apparel shops running DTF, sublimation and UV on demand. One project produces the correct output format for each technique — no mis-routed files.

What shops optimise for

  • Quote-to-production time — the faster a design becomes a production-ready file, the tighter the margin stays.
  • Output correctness — quickly switching between DTF, UV-DTF and sublimation output for different jobs on the same day.
  • Job traceability — reorders and revisions need to find the original sheet and re-produce it identically.

What NestSheet does for it

  • One project, multiple outputs — the same artwork can export to DTF TIFF, sublimation JPEG, or UV-DTF TIFF without re-building the sheet.
  • Project history — every export is versioned so you can reprint from the exact file a customer received last time.
  • Fast ROI calculator integrated with real order data — not a generic "save X hours" claim.
  • Integrations with common order-intake flows so gang sheets build themselves from the order list.
Compatible RIPs

All of the above — MainTOP, Cadlink, Roland VersaWorks, Mimaki RasterLink, Onyx, ColorLogic ZePrA, Fiery, SAi Flexi (Wasatch SoftRIP / Mutoh VerteLith expanding)

Materials

DTF film, sublimation paper, UV-DTF film, transfer vinyl — whichever the job needs
