A DTF gang sheet is a single sheet of DTF transfer film with many designs arranged — “ganged” — on it, printed in one run to use as much of the film as possible. Shops gang designs to cut film cost per transfer and press time per order.
That is the whole idea. Everything else about gang sheets — sizes, gaps, builders, utilisation — is detail in service of one goal: stop paying for blank film.
Why shops gang designs at all
DTF film is bought by the roll and consumed by the linear metre. The printer does not care whether a metre of film carries forty designs or four — it costs the same to buy, print, powder and cure. So the economics of a DTF order are decided before printing, at layout time:

Batching also cuts handling: one file sent to the RIP, one print run, one powder-and-cure pass — instead of a dozen small jobs queued one by one.
The anatomy of a gang sheet
Four terms cover almost everything on the sheet above:
- Roll (or sheet) width — fixed by your printer and film. Common DTF rolls run 30–60 cm wide; the layout has to live inside it.
- Margin — the blank border around the sheet edge. NestSheet’s default is 5 mm.
- Gap — the spacing between designs, kept uniform so the knife or scissors have a lane. NestSheet’s default is 2 mm, and the size chart shows exactly how the gap changes what fits.
- Rotation — turning a design 90° so it packs tighter. On mixed orders this is where hand layout starts losing to software, because the best rotation choice for one design depends on every other design on the sheet.

Who builds the sheet — the customer or the operator?
“Gang sheet builder” means two different products, and mixing them up costs shops real money:

Both are legitimate — many shops run one of each. The confusion matters when a shop that prints in-house tries to run production through a customer-facing widget: intake tools stop at “customer paid”, operator tools start at “now print it well”. Standard sizes, briefly
Suppliers mostly quote imperial sheet sizes; in-house shops mostly think in roll widths:

One number worth keeping from all of this: a 22×60″ gang sheet holds twelve 10×10″ designs only if they touch edge-to-edge — at a production 2 mm gap with 5 mm margins, ten fit (NestSheet gang sheet size chart, 2026). Where gang sheets go wrong
The classic failure modes, each with its own fix:

- Invisible pixels — near-transparent leftovers from background removal that print as dust. The transparent-PNG alpha checklist shows how to diagnose them before they reach film.
- Wrong gap for the cutting method — scissors want more lane than a plotter. Set the gap on purpose, not by habit.
